Students may receive federal financial aid:

• To repeat a course that has already been passed (D or higher) only one additional time. Any repeated attempts after that will not be eligible for financial aid. Note that this applies even if a failing grade (F) has been earned.
• As many times as necessary to repeat a course in which the only previous grade earned has been a failing grade (F).

All courses previously taken, even if financial aid was not used, are compared against the current semester to determine if it is a repeated class and whether it can be paid for using financial aid. This also includes courses taken at a prior institution. Financial aid may be recalculated if students take a class that is not eligible for financial aid.

Sign in to . Look under Academics to find Degree Audit. Students will be able to view the academic program they are taking and the list of courses required to complete their degree or certificate.

If students would like to change their degree or certificate program, they can complete and submit the Change Degree and Certificate Program Form found under Registration on Self-Service. Students may also see an Academic Advisor or the Registrar’s Office for assistance in updating their program.

If students are receiving financial aid, they are welcome to take classes which are not required for their degree or certificate. However, the credit hours for these classes will not be calculated in their eligibility for federal student aid.

If students are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and are enrolled in 12 credit hours, but only nine are required for their degree or certificate, they will receive a Federal Pell Grant for only nine eligible hours.

If students are enrolled in six credits hours, but only three hours are required for their program, they will not be eligible for a Federal Direct Student Loan or Federal Work Study. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 eligible credit hours for a Federal Student Loan or work study.

There are some instances when a class is required but is not listed on a degree or certificate program such as a pre-requisite course needed before students can take a course listed on their degree plan or substitutions approved by academic departments, as well as certain classes for the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ Honors Program.

NOTE: Remedial and ESOL courses are eligible for financial aid (up to 30 credit hours)  even though they are not listed on degree or certificate course requirements.

Remedial courses (classes designated as remedial such as: READ 091, READ 092, ENGL-0099, MATH 106C, MATH 111C, and MATH 115C) are eligible for financial aid funding, up to a maximum of 30 attempted credits. As long as the student is otherwise eligible for financial aid, the credits for the developmental courses will be considered as eligible coursework for financial aid.

ESOL courses are also eligible for financial aid. Students who attempt more than 30 credit hours of remedial coursework under the ESOL umbrella must contact the Student Financial Aid Office to develop a working plan for financial aid.
